About Nicole

Nicole Benoit Azark is a freelance writer, baker, traveler, marathon runner, singer, wife and mama. She has been writing feverishly since she was nine years old, when she got her first diary. From poems to stories to memoirs, her scribbling hand has tackled them all--though she now focuses on picture books and middle grade novels.

When she is not sitting in a pile of books with her 16-month-old son, she can be found teaching in her fourth-grade classroom, hoping to inspire young minds just as much as they inspire her.  Nicole attended the University of Illinois for her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and National-Louis University for her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Through a particularly eye-opening writing class with children’s author Esther Hershenhorn, Nicole found herself a part of the most helpful writing critique group, and became a member of SCBWI. She lives in Chicago with her son Brody, dog Griswold, and her amazing husband Nate, who came to see her twice when she played a spoon in a community theater production of “Beauty and the Beast.”
